Methodology
How PetLifeYears estimates cat lifespan
PetLifeYears estimates a statistical lifespan range, not an exact date. The current cat model combines published cat life expectancy research with bounded adjustments for breed, sex, neuter status, lifestyle, body condition, activity, and known health conditions.
Model version
Current model: cat-lifespan-v0.1. Reviewed: 2026-08-31.
Country is collected for context and future model improvement. It does not change the numeric estimate until reliable country-specific cat life table data is added.
What the estimate includes
- Breed or mixed/unknown baseline.
- Current age, handled as a conditional estimate.
- Sex and neuter status, anchored to published research direction.
- Indoor/outdoor lifestyle and body condition as bounded risk factors.
- Health condition inputs as non-diagnostic risk context.
Limitations
Country is collected for context and future model improvement. It does not change the numeric estimate until reliable country-specific cat life table data is added.
The result is an educational planning tool. It does not replace advice from a licensed veterinarian.
