Bird longevity: evidence and limits

Read the AVMA, Merck Veterinary Manual, RSPCA Australia and CDC sources, and why care answers are shown as guidance rather than extra years.

Sources and methodology

Published care references describe different bird groups and welfare needs, so diet, housing and health answers are kept as guidance rather than year changes.

Model: bird-lifespan-v0.1

The model uses total planning age = (current age³ + species-group reference age³)^(1/3). The curve is an internal assumption, not a fitted avian life table.

This estimate is for planning, not a medical prognosis. Bird group and age change the lifespan number; care fields shape the notes.

The estimate starts from companion-bird group ranges and an age curve.

Educational planning only, not veterinary advice or a guarantee. Seek avian veterinary help for breathing trouble, appetite loss, fluffed posture, droppings changes, injuries, feather picking or repeated egg laying.
